Travel Sense and Samosas (A Tasty Snack Food From India) All In A Fun Little Poem
Namaste
This poem is a story about travelling in other countries and experiencing the gifts of different cultures. It's a little about temptation and following your gut feeling. No matter how enticing the temptation may be, if we have a hunch there will probably be dire consequence then we must resist, or face the medicine... as it were :-)
Golden Splendour
Nay, I dare not open these final gates
though it tempts with golden splendour.
In steadfast gaze, my eyes affixed
But it's betrayal to surrender.
Nor I dare not yield one single breath
'stead grit, so sentries stand their posts.
That evil Trojan Horse... within,
Hell's seething hordes of armies hosts
Yay, be there breech and belly reached
So fire and pain flood ponderosa
Won't time and mind e'er want forget
That savoury street samosa
:-)
I hope you got a chuckle here. Where I lived in Uttar Pradesh India for most of three years there is a high incidence of intestinal tract infections amongst "Videshi." Many infections happen because we turn a deaf ear to our own inner voice. Of course if we're not used to the microbes, it is easy to get sick anywhere in spite of all efforts to be cautious. I fell very ill and lost 15kg (33 lbs) - 20% of my weight.
Indian food is so wonderful and tasty and the spontaneous snacks from street vendors are part of the fun... if we use some common sense. By and by I fell into assisting the Doctor who helped me, treating many ailing visitors who felt the wrath of Golden Splendour.
But mmmm... look at those delicious samosas... just one couldn't hurt...
